On January 22, 2005 Thunder Ranch held an open house for invited guests, owners, and vendors. Special guests included the editors of Kit Car Builder and Kit Car magazines. The open house was the official opening of our newly outfitted final assembly and showroom facility. The new facility dubbed “Thunderwood” by the employees covers more than 3600 sq ft and is outfitted with new top of the line Baldhead brand tool cabinets, and work benches. The assembly/showroom area is outfitted with NiMH ceiling lamps that throw daylight simulating light to show off the cars in a dazzling manner.
Tom McBurnie, owner of Thunder Ranch, stated “the facility represents a much needed component of this growing company. Prospects will be able to leisurely and comfortably view at any time a variety of the Company’s award winning designed cars.”
The new “digs” generated repeated ooohs and aaaahs from all in attendance. The guests had an opportunity to view and photograph the various cars built here at Thunder Ranch including the James Dean 550 Spyder manufactured by us for use in the 2002 movie, “Almost Salinas”, a documentary about James Dean’s short life.
Throughout the afternoon the guests were treated to a smorgasbord of gourmet items and dessert treats prepared by Jeannie McBurnie and her volunteer staff! As the day came to a close Tom McBurnie extended an open invitation for anyone reading this news item to visit Thunder Ranch, the award winning maker of the highest quality kits and handbuilt cars available.
